Eaglets charged to win World Cup
National Sports Commission (NSC) boss, Bala Bawa Ka'oje has charged the victorious Golden Eaglets of Nigeria that won the African cadet championship in Togo last Sunday to take their championship instinct to Korea and win the World Cup there for Nigeria and Africa.
In a grand reception organized by the NSC boss who returned from Cuba on Thursday to receive the new African champions, the Golden Eaglets, Ka'oje urged the players and their coaching crew not to relent in their efforts until they win the World Championship later this year in Korea.
"While I was far away in Cuba my mind and soul was with the Eaglets and I always asked Dr Amos Adamu about their performances which he used to tell me. Your achievement is a great success to Nigeria and Africa as a whole. You will not only play in the World Cup in Korea but Insah Allah you will also win the cup.
"We will continue to give you the needed support and encouragement to achieve success in this assignment. I will also have to make immediate arrangements to see Mr. President, who I am very sure will honour you as he did to Super Falcons when they emerged African Champions too," Ka'oje told KICK OFF at the reception held at the Conference Room of the NSC boss.
He gave kudos to the team for doing the nation proud as well as the NFA Board and secretariat for performing well since they were voted in.
"I really appreciate the way the NFA is being run now. We are gradually gaining our reputation as a footballing nation back and we have succeeded in these goals. I want you to continue in this tempo.
"The government will also support the NFA in getting private sponsorship for NFA's programmes. And now that you are getting good results, your teams will attract sponsorship," Ka'oje assured.
The coach of the team, Yemi Tella and the captain presented the trophy won to the NFA boss, Sani Lulu who in turn presented the trophy to the NSC boss who will later present the trophy won by the Eaglets to President Olusegun Obasanjo .
In his remarks, Lulu thanked the NSC chairman for always coming to the aid of the association every time they ran to him for funds. According to him, "the burden was quite much because we fully depended on the NSC for funds. But your (Ka'oje's) office has been supporting us every time."
