Turaki urges
NYSC to accept postings to rural areas

GOVERNOR Ibrahim Saminu Turaki of Jigawa state has told the
1,911 corps members who completed their orientation course in
the state that one of the modalities of the National Youth
Service Corps (NYSC) stipulates that in any particular service
year, members must be posted to rural areas where 70 per cent of
Nigerians live.
“I stand to encourage you to accept your postings in good faith
to rural areas where your services are needed the most. With
humility and sincerity, I enjoin you to do all that you can to
leave enduring legacies with the people whom you will live with
for the next one year”, he advised.
Governor Turaki whose address was read by the state commissioner
of information, Alhaji Mukhtari Muhammed Birniwa during the
official closing ceremony of Batch ‘A’ orientation course, held
at the state NYSC orientation camp, Gumel, emphasized that the
role of corps members in the society was well spelt out,
pointing out that theirs was to provide hope where others
failed.
He added that by viture of their training, the nation expected
that the youth of this great country will rise to provide the
needed economic, social and political environment that can
enhance the standard of living of every Nigerian.
Governor Turaki who said that the nation’s solution to problems
lie squarely in the hands of youth corps members, encouraged
them to interact freely with their host communities, learn the
culture, avoid the taboos and seek ways of improving the lives
of the common man.
In his welcome address, the state chairman, NYSC governing
board, who is also the state commissioner of information, Alhaji
Mukhtar Muhammed Birniwa, called on the people of the state to
support the corps members to make their stay in the state
meaningful and rewarding.
Earlier, in his introductory remarks, the state NYSC cordinator,
Dr. Godwin Isu had said that the corps members were fully ready
and equipped to report to their places of primary assignment
after fulfilling the orientation aspect of the four cardinal
programmes of the service year.
He informed the corps members that their predecessors
contributed immensely to the development of their host
communities through various programmes of the service year by
embarking on projects based on community needs.
