INEC registers more voters in Kaduna, Osun
INEC says more than one million people have been registered in Kaduna state and 857,892 in Osun, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
INEC's Commissioner in Kaduna state, Alhaji Aliyu Marafa, said the commission recorded the number last week.
``My electoral officers in the local government areas are presently collating the number of voters so far registered and very soon, we will make it public,'' Marafa said.
He said the commission took delivery of 1,277 required registration machines and attributed the success recorded to the quick deployment of the machines.
Mafara said peoples' attitude to the exercise had changed as they were coming out en masse for the exercise.
Meanwhile, the commission has started verifying claims of candidates for the elections.
NAN reports that there were 29 Senatorial candidates, 106 candidates for the House of Representatives, 209 for the State House of Assembly.
The Osun INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mallam Ahmadu Abubakar said that 759 machines have so far been received for the exercise.
Abubakar expressed satisfaction with the registration and said the commission had overcome the hiccups experienced when the exercise started.
According to him, the commission will certainly meet its target of registermore than one million voters.
He said the commission would start verification of claims of candidates on Jan. 12.
