From MUAWUYA B. IDRIS, Katsina

THE National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Katsina state has so far graduated about 13,000 youths that were trained under skills acquisition programme in the state.
The coordinator of NDE in Katsina state, Alhaji Garba Jibrin Kirfi told Sunday Triumph in an exclusive interview that all the graduated youths received loans and are now in business.
Alhaji Kirfi explained that the directorate will in February this year graduate additional 850 youths trained in different trades.
He said the 850 youths are currently receiving training which is in collaboration between the state government and the directorate.
“We hope that the collaboration will be a continuous one, so as to reduce the high number of unemployed among the youth”, he stated.
Alhaji Kirfi explained that the directorate in the state is planning to set up agricultural skill development centre at Dutsi local government council.
He said the centre, which is expected to take off this year, will train people in agricultural skills for a period of one year. They will collect loan at the end of the training.
The coordinator further said the directorate is collaborating with the state government for training of farmers in irrigation, bee-keeping and fish farming.
He said the training is being conducted at the centres at the local government councils built for the running of the programme.
