Plateau Utd’s
boss excited
New chairman of northern football strong holders Plateau United
Football Club, Yakubu Taddy, has disclosed that his Jos based
team has been strongly rejuvenated to gain promotion back into
the Premier League after many years away from the elite ranks.
Taddy would had initially expressed optimism of his team’s
promotion chances due to the relative weakness of the teams in
his club’s division, told Nigeriansportsonline.com that with the
Plateau state government’s renewed backing of the team the sky
is now their limit.
“The club has now been placed directly under the control of the
office of the state governor Micheal Bot-mang,” Taddy said.
“We are now to be supervised by the permanent secretary in the
governor’s office, as well as the chief of staff to the
governor. To this end, funding would not be the problem of the
team. All the team needs to do now is to play football, win, and
leave money matters to the management,” he added.
The new Plateau United helmsman went on to reveal that the club
has paid their players 25 per cent of their sign-on fees, while
expressing optimism that the players would start their Division
1A campaign at home to Babanawa on a winning note at the Rwang
Pam stadium in Jos.
“Our players are now highly motivated and we have given them 25
per cent of their sign-on fees, while we’ve also told them what
their bonuses looks like.
“We hope they start firing on all cylinders from our first game
here in Jos against Babanawa this weekend. We aren’t going to
under rate them, but I feel we are in the easiest of the four
divisions and we have a great chance of gaining promotion to the
Premier League next season,” Taddy boasted to
Nigeriansportsonline.com.
Plateau United after several years of near misses of gaining
promotion back to the Premier League, a result of playing most
seasons against their fellow Jos sides JUTH and Might Jets, kick
off their National Division 1A matches against Babanawa in Jos.
They also have teams like SEC of Abuja, Makwanda Babes,Jigawa
Stars, Yobe Stars, Grays FC, amongst others to play against. |
