FRSC moves to check recklessness ... As 17 perish in Ondo

AS the yuletide season, which also conincides with the Eid-el-Kabir festival begins tomorrow, state sector commands of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), are working towards checking recklessness on urban roads and major highways in the country.
The Gombe state command of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), has affirmed that it will not tolerate reckless driving during the festive periods.
The sector commander of the command, Mr, H.Z Fuomsuk, said, his command will intensify patrol and rescue mission by means of extending the time of closing from duty to late at night. However, the exercise will concentrate within the metropolis than on the highways.
In an exclusive interview the sector commander, revealed to Sunday Triumph, that the command has taken delivery of Alboizer (an instrument used in detecting a drunk driver), thereby making it easier for the command to detect and punish drunk drivers, accordingly.
Sunday Triumph, also gathered that statistical record has shown that the number of accidents that occurred within the town is comparably higher than that on the high ways.
This he said necessitated the strict enforcement of traffic regulations in order to reduce the rate of accidents, thereby restoring sanity and orderliness within the metropolis.
The sector commander, however, appealed to night travellers to desist from doing so, in as much it is not out of neccessity.
Moreso, the command has equally issued a strong warning to motorcyclists (achaba) to strictly comply with the traffic regulatioin in the state capital.
He further, said , his command is working in liason with Nigeria Police Force for an adequate enforcement of law and order during these festive periods.
In Kogi state, the Sector Command of the FRSC says it has launched special operations to save lives and property on the roads during the Christmas, Sallah and New Year festivities.
The FRSC Sector Head of Public Enlightenment, Mr John Babalola, announced this in a statement in Lokoja.
``The sector has commenced an elaborate public enlightenment campaign on the need for motorists to imbibe the culture of responsible driving habit,'' he added.
