FRSC moves to check
recklessness ... As 17 perish in Ondo

AS the yuletide season, which also conincides with the Eid-el-Kabir
festival begins tomorrow, state sector commands of the Federal Road
Safety Commission (FRSC), are working towards checking recklessness
on urban roads and major highways in the country.
The Gombe state command of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC),
has affirmed that it will not tolerate reckless driving during the
festive periods.
The sector commander of the command, Mr, H.Z Fuomsuk, said, his
command will intensify patrol and rescue mission by means of
extending the time of closing from duty to late at night. However,
the exercise will concentrate within the metropolis than on the
highways.
In an exclusive interview the sector commander, revealed to Sunday
Triumph, that the command has taken delivery of Alboizer (an
instrument used in detecting a drunk driver), thereby making it
easier for the command to detect and punish drunk drivers,

Police acquire 30 armoured vehicles to
fight crime
The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Sunday Ehindero, said in Akure
that the police had procured 30 armoured vehicles to combat crime in
Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers states.
He made the announcement at the inauguration of the joint task force
and community policing project in Ondo state.
He said the measure was to ensure the security of police men
deployed to the affected states.
Ehindero said the police would receive the vehicles before March
next year.
He said the police had improved and performed better in the past two
years, noting that some foreign countries had requested for
assistance on training from the Nigeria police.
The policing system, he added, was being transformed from para-military
policing to community policing.
Ehindero said community policing had commenced in two states and
would be extended to 18 states within the next two months.
He announced that 51 policemen would soon go for training in
community policing in Boston, U.S..
Gov. Olusegun Agagu said 22 Toyota Hilux vehicles purchased at
N101.2 million, were provided for the joint task force operation by
the state government.
He said the state also provided armoured vests, walkie-talkies, VHF
base radio with power supply back-up worth N24.7 million.

Shekarau tasks Pillars’ board on
continental ticket

KANO state government has tasked the management committee of Kano
Pillars Football Club to redouble their effort to ensure that the
club secure one of the continental tickets at the end of next
football season.
The state commissioner of information, youth, sports and culture,
Alhaji Ibrahim Garba stated this while inaugurating the
reconstituted management committee of Kano Pillars led by Alhaji
Muhammad Tukur Babangida at the ministry boardroom on Friday.
Alhaji Garba who spoke through his permanent secretary, Alhaji Ahmed
Zubair Galadanchi explained that the government desire to
reconstitute the present management is in order<more>> |
