Job specialisation: A way to successuful life
By ABAH MICHAEL
Life gives opportunities which brings us both fortune and troubles, but in most cases the decision to choose what we like or want is greatly as a result of our desire for many things which are never certain. While some people’s decision to choose a particular line of job or area of specialization is greatly influenced by other people’s achievement, many believe in destiny.
There was a young man called Phillip who wanted to become a gardener because of his love for flowers. At about the age of 14 years he felt it would be wonderful to live in the green and the beautiful smelling flowers garden. But after a shortwhile, he returned home, moaning about his works which had led him to remain bent over the ground for hours and to keep on shoveling dirt here and there. His back and his knees hurt him and he gave up planting flowers as a job.
He decided to become a hunter. “In the green and shady woods, life must be wonderful,” he said. But soon, he was back with the excuse that he could not bear the fog and the early morning air. Then he had the idea to become a fisherman. “To sail on the clear waters of the river in a nice boat and to pull in net after net of fish must be truly a wonderful trade,” he said.
But even this joy came to an end again. How can one ever be dry?, he moaned and “water for me is the worst thing ever.”
At last he decided to become a cook. “To the cook,” he said, “gardener, hunter and fishermen consign all the fruit of their work and he is never without a good meal.” But once again he returned home with a thousand excuses. It would be all wonderful.” He said if there wasn’t that blessed fire. “When I am in front of the fire, I seem to melt with the heat.”
Phillip’s father knew, there was a serious problem with his son on how to choose a particular line of profession. He has followed Phillip’s decision in the past and thought it was wrong to allow him continue in the trend so he didn’t allow him to choose a fifth trade.
He, however, told him something important. He said, if you want to be happy, you must learn to support the disappointment of life courageously. This means you must learn to walk even if the going gets so tough with you in life. The road to success is never an easy road, therefore, one must learn to walk even when others are crawling. “If one wants to avoid all the unpleasant things that the air, the earth, water and fire often cause us, you would have to leave this world. If you think always of any of the good that you receive in your present condition you will see that a little at a time the difficulties will seem insignificant.”
Phillip took those words to learn and when he overheard someone else moaning, he would give them the same advice which his father had given him. Often times, you have no idea of what other people go through doing their job or career, but in most cases, you get to know about their job stress when you pry into their line of profession.
The situation in today`s environment is such that people no longer believe in specialization of duties as it were in the past. This is because some think or believe that, if there is no tangible progress in what we do the best option is to quickly snap into the next available one which is believed to be more profitable and mostly payable as far as that profession or trade is concerned. It should be noted that dedication to duty in any line of trade or profession is the only remedy or solution to bring a lasting result that is profit oriented, and except one learns to support the difficulties of life even in the most difficult situation courageously, there is bound to be failure, in every step one takes. Courage backed by enthusiasm is a driving factor that ensures a great deal of success even in the most odd job. Professionally speaking efficiency is a product of dedication to a specific line of profession which has a clearly spelt out objectives or goals. Therefore for one to be able to achieve a good result in what he chooses to do, he must learn to put the pros and the cons together to ascertain what factors are responsible for survival in such line of trade or profession. take for instance a situation where one had a good job like those in the banking industry. While some believe that they spend too much time working on a daily basis, others who have jobs that pay less may believe it is time to move to join up in the system not considering the nature of the job because it is certainly not going to be rosy all the way.
Every angle in life has a string attached to it just as every job has its good and bad times. If Phillips was not stopped by his father who thought it was wrong for him to continue his truancy it would have been difficult for him to actually make up his mind to stay put in a place but then he did realize and reasoned with his father’s advice that he wouldn’t actually attain a good position on a trade or profession if he continued that way.
The purpose of this piece is to encourage people to stay on a profession they choose to allow them achieve a certain level of development and growth. Except one chooses to move, he will continue to be stagnant and the ability to achieve or record any progress in his professional line would be difficult
Johnny Walker a philosopher said though he is a slow walker, he learnt to walk even when others are sitting or crawling. that means even if nothing seems to be positive, even if nothing moves, continue to develop a positive attitude toward what you have been doing, because it is only by one’s persistent attitude to stay on that job that one can actually grow.
A great level of success is achieved by great achievers in various fields because persistence is seen as a force to be matched with achievement.professional growth is necessary in everything one chooses to do. Therefore, what everyone needs to know is to learn to see the job as it is and try to improve on one’s lapses to bring about a necessary change that is capable of bringing a possible positive transformation.a group of administrators in the 1940s felt things weren’t moving the right direction in the United States economy. They believed it was right to address the whole issue of failure by going back to the drawing board. While this was done and good result was obtained, things after a few years became bad and the entire state economy was also affected. Today a great deal of success is being recorded and the United States economy has recorded improved economic transformation generally, and citizens in the field have stuck to their fields of endeavour even when the system is bad. This can be applied today to our private business because if it can be achieved at the highest level, it can as well be done by an individual. We must learn to see every element as an important one.
One must learn to take the bull by the horns and lead it to the big river. Things can only be done if sincere approach aimed at improving a trade is adopted. One should not be left behind because you believe you can’t move. Even if it is tough, keep moving on as it is believed that only the tough people get moving when the going becomes tough.
If we look in every life and every heart, we do find out that each and every human has his part in life and even those who travel the fortunes way sometimes carry the biggest head on their shoulder. This is why those who recorded a great deal of achievement in our society of today should be looked at as the masters of today. Courage, dedication, and persistent efforts aimed at bringing about a result should be the greatest weapon every individual should adopt to go through the rough road. It must at the end be believed that, success and achievement are product of persistent hardwork and except we learn to apply it in our personal lives our decision to choose a profession will be threatened by a great deal of failure just like Phillip had.
