NAFDAC confiscates N200m fake drugs in Katsina

THE National Food, Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated assorted fake, expired and unregistered drugs worth N200 million in Katsina state.
The officer in charge of NAFDAC in the state, Dr. Maiyaki Isa Sani told newsmen that the drugs were confiscated from hawkers and patent medicine stores across the state from January this year to date.
Dr. Maiyaki explained that the drugs were being taken to Jigawa state for destruction at the North-West zone destruction centre.
He said with the action taken, there has been a significant reduction of hawking and selling of fake, expired and unregistered drugs in the state.
“We have suceeded in arresting 10 - 20 drug hawkers everyday whenever our staff go out on an operation”, he said.
‘We can beat our chest and say there has been a significant reduction in the sales of fake drugs in Katsina”, he added.
On pure water manufacturing, Dr. Maiyaki explained that producers of pure water, yoghurt and bakeries were fully complying with the directives given toward ensuring hygienic condition and registration with NAFDAC in Katsina state.
The NAFDAC officer then appealed to people in the state to assist his organisation in its efforts to wipe out hawkers and patent medicine stores that are in the habit of selling fake drugs.
