Amodu in Nasarawa for ASFAG
Shaibu Amodu, former Super Eagles coach who got the big boot after qualifying the national team for the Korea/Japan 2002 World Cup finals has been drafted into the technical crew of CAF Champions League campaigners, Nasarawa United ahead their January 28, 2007 opening fixture against ASFAG of Burkina Faso, reports Nigeriansportsonline.com.
The one time Sharks of Port Harcourt tactician is joining the fold under the capacity of Technical Director.
The Nigerian CAF Champions League debutants already have Zachary Baraje and Daniel Amokachi as technical adviser and chief coach respectively.
Amidst fears of a possible friction between the three top coaches as they are all top rated coaches, Baraje dispelled such fears, telling Nigeriansportsonline.com that Amodu is a foundation member of the club, and that both himself and Amokachi endorsed his (Amodu's) coming.
“I do not foresee any friction between us in view of his coming because he has been part of the Nasarawa United team right from the formation of the club except that he has been operating from the distance”, Baraje reacted while confirming the coming of Shaibu Amodu to the club.
“Besides, there were enough consultations before he finally joined us.
“He is close to both myself and Dan [Amokachi] as friends aside having worked together before.
“So we do not entertain any fears of interference on our schedule of duties or anything ....The whole idea was conceived out of the need to strengthen the team in all areas considering the nature of task we are facing in both the continental championship and the domestic competitions”, Baraje explained.
