Dogonyaro tasks FG on basic education
From Mustapha Saye, Kaduna

The federal government has been called upon to give more emphasis to the improvement of basic education with a view to meet up with global challenges.
The former National President of Council of Women Society (NCWS) Hajia Dr. Laila Dogonyaro made the call in an interview with Sunday Triumph in Kaduna.
She said governments at all levels must give maximum attention to education most especially at primary and secondary levels.
Hajiya Laila lamented that lack of qualitative education at such levels have cause a set back for the socio-development of younger ones adding that “if government want get out from the predicament of social-ills, there is need for it to fund education at such level”.
She observed that government is so lackadaisical in providing the conducive learning atmosphere pointing out that it is very disheartening and alarming seeing what is happening in public schools where there are thousands of pupils in the class to the extent that even a teacher cannot identify his pupils.
Hajiya Laila who is also the Garkuwan Garki passionately appealed to the government as a matter of urgency to come to the aid of the nation’s education.
Commenting on her pet project, ‘’market pilot’’ under the umbrella of Jam’iyyar Matan Arewa (JMA) Laila said that the programmes started since 1965 aimed at assisting less privilege.
She explained that, right now there are hundreds of less privileged youth who benefitted a lot from the project and even some have become self dependent.
Hajiya Laila maintained that apart from market pilot, the JMA train them in education while she expressed her dismay on the lack of support from well-to-do citizens in terms of assisting less privilege.
She, however, appealed to the government and well meaning individuals to come to the aid of less privilege with a view to putting smiles on their faces.
