Eagles: Sponsors back Vogts
Nigeriansportsonline.com can reveal today that the recent appointment of German coach Berti Vogts as technical manager of the Super Eagles has opened doors for the national team in terms of corporate sponsorship.
First vice chairman of Nigeria Football Association, NFA, Amanze Uchegbulem, told Nigeriansportsonline.com this much.
The Imo state FA Chairman was part of the team that went to London where the former Scotland manager was interviewed by a five-man NFA team.
Uchegbulam said that aside the pedigree of the former Germany international, there are other goodies that have already started to trail his appointment.
“Within a few days the NFA have resolved the knotty issue appointing a credible coach for the Super Eagles,” Uchegbulem said.
“We have also been able to finally get a Secretary General for the FA and I bet you other goodies are coming in the days ahead.
“For instance, about three companies from Germany are already interested in areas of sponsorship and just as we have been able to get friendly matches too for the Eagles which Nigerians have clamoured for, the interests from the German companies will also be sorted.”
Meanwhile, the NFA big gun has rubbished claims that the new Super Eagles manager, Berti Vogts will operate from Europe.
“His major plan, he told us, is to rebuild Nigerian football by getting a solid home based Super Eagles team,” Uchegbulem explained.
“So, if he is to operate from his native Germany, how can he watch the local league here in order to be able to pick the players?”
“The man is coming to stay here,” he submitted.
Bertis Vogts will be unveiled by NFA to the Nigerian sporting media in Abuja on January 30, 2007. Vogts will be in London on February 6 when Super Eagles will take on Ghana Black Stars in an international friendly as an observer.
He will finally resume duties on March 1, 2007 for the Nigeria Vs Uganda Cup of Nations qualifier.
