Transcorp
empathises with NITEL workers
The new owners of NITEL, Transcorp International, have expressed
concern on the continuous delay by the BPE to pay gratuities and
pensions of disengaged NITEL staff.
Transcorp International, expressed their concern in a statement
signed by the spokesman of NITEL, Malam Bala Abdulkadir, in
Abuja .
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITEL, Mr Steve Brookman,
who was appointed last year by Transcorp International to turn
the company around, said staff morale in the company had been
low.
Brookman said the payment of gratuities and pensions was outside
his purview, but he would continue to dialogue with all the
stakeholders to ensure a quick resolution of all the issues
hindering payment.
The CEO commended NITEL staff for the peaceful way they handled
the last protest march in Abuja, promising to always remind
stakeholders on the need to pay up the outstanding benefits.
As part of his solidarity with the workers, Brookman said the
management delegated the Human Resources Manager, Mr Abubakar
Hassan, to address the staff at the headquarters.
He said some managers in the company, including Hassan, also
accompanied the workers to the BPE where a meeting was held to
address the demands.
NAN recalls that a task force was set at the meeting to monitor
the process of payment, as the BPE promised to pay up by the end
of the month .
Members of the task force include, officials of
the ministry of finance, communication, labour, the BPE,
Accountant Generals Office, Transcorp and Senior Staff
Association of Utility Statutory Corporate Government Owned
Companies (SSAUSCGOC). |
