CAF Award: Amokachi backs Kanu
Super Eagles Captain , Nwankwo Kanu , has earned top praises from his former teammate in the national team , Daniel Amokachi , following Wednesday’s nomination of Portsmouth of England striker for the African Player of the Year [2006] Award , reports Nigeriansportsonline.com.
Confederation of Africa Football, CAF, Wednesday in Lagos , Nigeria, listed Nwankwo Kanu, Didier Drogba, Abou Trika , Samuel Eto’o and Michael Essien as the continent’s most outstanding players in the 2006 season from where the eventual winner will be voted in January, 2007.
The duo of Nwankwo Kanu and Samuel Eto’o have won the award twice even with the injured Cameroonian Eto’o as the current holder of the crown.
Amokachi told Nigeriansportsonline.com that Kanu’s nomination was acknowledgement of the player’s form and performance for both club and country.
“I am really happy for him. He has done so well for his club, Portsmouth in the English Premiership where he is even the leading scorer.
“At the last cup of nations Kanu was wonderful, so his nomination, to me, is well deserved”, the man called DA BULL by his admirers in his playing days said.
And with CAF set to pick the best head that will wear the crown in January, what are the chances of the man called Papilo in winning the award for the third time?
“I want Kanu to win. I Know CAF has a laid down criteria for choosing the award winner. It would be great if Kanu wins though all the others are good too”, he said.
