FRSC institutes reforms to
ensure highway safety

The FRSC zone 4, has introduced some reforms that would enhance highway
safety.
The new zonal commanding offer in charge of FRSC zone 4, Jos, assistant
corps Marshal Eloka Obiora Anyaoku announced this while addressing newsmen
in Jos.
He said the reforms include the establishment of additional help areas/RTA
clinics all over the country, expansion of total road network coverage, with
the establishment of additional unit commands all over the country.
According to him, that also includes covering of stakeholder’s
conference/forum on motorcycle operation in Nigeria and the establishment of
SACORS at the state level and LACORS at local government level.
Mr. Obiora said the reforms were geared towards forging a better
understanding among stakeholders in order to make traffic and road safety
management better.
He further advised motorists who intended to travel during the ember months
to prepare their vehicle and give more attention to service/repair of their
vehicles to avoid brake down or accident on their journey.
He further called on them to avoid the use of Tukunbo tyres and obey all
traffic roles and regulations, and also charged commuters to avoid poorly
maintained vehicles with bashes and worn out tyres. He also advised drivers
over speeding or dangerous over-takings.
Mr. Obiora said the zone would not tolerate the driver’s makingor receiving
phone calls while driving or refusal to use seat belt, adding that 18% of
accidents on the road was caused by phone calls.
He told newsmen that anybody found using or answering calls would be fined
four thousand naira (N4,000.00), and called on the press to give the command
the necessary support and cooperation in order to achieve the objectives.
The new zonal commanding officer in charge of FRSC zone four, Jos, Mr. Anyao
who said he was transfered from FRSC zone two command with the headquarter
in Lagos, where he was over seeing Lagos, and Ogun state commands.
He said he was in this command to over see Plateau, Nassarawa and Benue
states.
