Clash between LG boss, councillors claims one
One person was confirmed dead in Osogbo when supporters of the local government chairman and those of the Councillors clashed for several hours.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that three other people who received gun shot wounds are now recuperating at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital (LAUTH), Osogbo.
Sources close to the local government told NAN that the crisis resulted from a disagreement between the supporters of the council chairman, Alhaji Liadi Gbadamosi, on one hand, and the councillors on the other.
NAN learnt that the councillors had requested the chairman to explain how he spent N80 million accuring to the council when he was still owing the councillors the balance of their constituency allowance of N300,000.
The councillors had reportedly perfected their plan to sack the council boss and the council's Secretary for allegedly ``diverting a greater percentage of the windfall into his pocket''.
The councillors had feared that the N2 million each promised them might not materialise before their exit from office anytime from now, and that would put them at a disadvantage.
The councillors were alleged to have recruited members of the Oodu'a Poeple's Congress, while the chairman mobilised his personal security outfit, who were all armed.
When contacted, the Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Joshua Olayemi, confirmed that the police had received a report that one person was shot dead during the clash.
He, however, said the situation had been brought under control, adding that the perpetrators of the disturbance would be brought to book.
