4,872 chickens
culled down in Katsina *As disease resurfaces

COMMITTEE on bird flu in Katsina state has killed additional
3,882 chickens affected by the disease.
The killing of the chickens brought to total number of 4,872
chickens affected by the disease within the last two weeks.
Weekend Triumph learnt that so far, about three farms have been
depopulated in the state while surveillance on other farms
suspected to have bird flu is going on.
The state commissioner for agriculture and natural resources,
Alhaji Ali Hussain, told newsmen in Katsina last Thursday that
poultry farmers in the state are directed to report the outbreak
of the disease to veterinary officers.
He said, a nine-member committee set up by the state government
on bird flu has embarked on inspection of all poultry farms.
Alhaji Dutsin-Ma assured that the state government will
compensate all poultry farmers whose chickens were culled as a
result of outbreak of the disease.
He appealed to people in the state not to panic, and advised
them to ensure that they cook all eggs and chickens very well
before eating.
Alhaji Dutsin-Ma further appealed to poultry farmers to
co-operate with the committee in an effort to arrest the spread
of the disease. |
