Court adjourns case of murder against housewife, 2 others
A Lokoja high court has adjourned till Jan. 18, hearing in the case of a housewife, Mrs Ramota Kazeem and two others, who allegedly murdered their neighbour.
Justice Tom Yakubu said he adjourned the case to enable the accused to secure legal representations.
Hearing was stalled because there were no legal representations for the second and third accused, Reuben Ayeni and Ade Ayedun.
The prosecution had alleged that the first accused, Kazeem alias "Buy Omo" of Army Barracks, Lokoja, conspired with the other two suspects to kidnap the deceased, Joseph Amupitan, with the intention to kill him.
The court heard that the suspects took Amupitan into a bush on Army Barracks road, clobbered him to death, after which the deceased was beheaded and his genitals removed while his Mazda car was sold.
The accused, however, ran out of luck when the car was discovered later by the police in Abuja and investigations revealed that the deceased who was reported missing by his wife had actually been killed.
They were arrested by the police who obtained confessional statements as to how, where and when the man was taken to and killed as well as who had what part of the body removed.
This led to the first arraignment before a Lokoja chief magistrate's court on July 20, 2006, before the case was transferred to a Lokoja high court.
