3SC boss declares NFL
congress illegal
Shooting Stars general manager Nathaniel Adewole claims that the Nigeria
Football League (NFL) had no right to hold their Annual General Meeting on
Thursday.
Adewole told KICK OFF that the AGM was illegal since the law court in Abuja
had already suspended all NFL activities pending the determination of the
3SC suit filed against the board on Wednesday.
"Our lawyers confirmed that the court has served both the NFA and the NFL an
injunction and court order suspending all the activities of the NFL until
the determination of the case we brought before the Abuja High Court.
"So any activities the NFL are involved in as from Wednesday (the AGM
inclusive) amounted to contempt of court," the former Shooting Stars player
told KICK OFF on Thursday.
The 3SC boss claimed that whatever pronouncement the NFL boss, Uyuiki
Obaseki made on him as regards his alleged suspension from the league for
two years also constitutes a contempt of court and the action is null and
void.
"If the NFL fails to refute the story of my suspension within the next 48
hours, I will also charge them to court. But I can tell you that up till
now, I have not received a letter to that effect from the NFL. Even any time
I receive this letter, I will still go to court to challenge this action,"
Adewole bared out his mind to KICK OFF.
"Through our lawyers, Afe Babalola Chambers, we are asking the court to
compel NFA to start the appeal process to hear our case. Also we asked the
court to suspend all NFL activities until the case is heard, which the court
granted. Our lawyers have also served both the NFL and the NFA appropriately
on Wednesday.
But in a swift reaction to Adewole's claims, NFL boss Obaseki denied ever
receiving any court injunction suspending his board's activities as being
claimed by the 3SC boss. He, however, advised Adewole to accept the decision
of the NFL Appeal Committee which threw to the dustbin 3SC case against
Kaduna United.
The Ibadan based team had claimed that Kaduna United fielded ineligible
player, Josiah Madubuchi who was alleged to have received two yellow cards
prior to their match during last season. Obaseki claimed that 3SC did not
present their case well, a reason why it was thrown out.
"If Shooting Stars like, they can go to court. I even explained this to the
congress and they were greatly disappointed in Shooting Stars. The club
(3SC) went to a match and detected a player that had two yellow cards.
"Naturally before you start the match you are supposed to tell the match
commissioner who will tell a photographer to take the photograph of the said
player with the match officials. After which the club will put up a protest
letter even if it is just three lines.
"This 3SC failed to do until they returned to Ibadan after some few days
before they started making noise and writing petition. No it is not done
that way," Obaseki told KICK OFF after the NFL Congress.
The Benin High Chief said without mincing words, "3SC don't have any case".
He also disclosed that all clubs including 3SC signed an agreement with the
NFL not to take their case(s) to court. He also stated that Bussdor FC of
Port Harcourt had withdrawn their case from the law court, but were still
penalized and not allowed to participate in the NFL Congress on Wednesday.
"Among all the 52 clubs that attended the Congress, only Bussdor were not
allowed in while Shooting Stars were duly represented. This is also to
confirm that 3SC have not taken us to court. If so the club should have been
prevented from attending the congress. Nath is just making noise on the
pages of the newspapers," Obaseki said.
