Westerhof in Dutch coach deal
ClemenT Westerhof has been linked to be the go-between in Kwara United's search for a Dutch coach to take charge of the club’s domestic and continental campaigns in the 2006/2007 season, reports Nigeriansportsonline.com.
United and their former Technical Manager , Kadiri Ikhana [MON] mutually parted ways at the conclusion of the 2006 season after the former CAF African Coach of the Year [2003] Award winner secured a CAF Confederations Cup ticket for the Ilorin outfit that pride themselves as Afonja Warriors.
Ikhana’s drift thus imposed a compelling challenge on the management of the club to shop for a tactician considered sound enough to weather the tough African challenge.
Nigeriansportsonline.com regular checks in the club reveal that sequel to this Kwara United looked in the direction of the self acclaimed Dutchgerian to help scout for a quality coach for employment.
Westerhof went to his native country, Holland , to search for and convince his fellow countryman that a job is already waiting for him here in Nigeria and that the ground is very, very fertile for him.
Affirms a member of the club’s management when Nigeriansportsonline.com interviewed him on Westerhof’s role in the appointment of a Dutch coach for Kwara United.
“We don’t just need a coach but a technically sound one for that matter. And that is the reason why we thought it wise to look beyond the country given the level of competition we are going to face in the continent next year”, offered the United official who would not want to be named in print.
“So we asked Westerhof for assistance which he accepted. He has done his part and by this weekend or so the man will be here so as to resume duties next week.
“I wouldn’t know his name yet until he comes. You should remember that Kwara State Government owns the Soccer School of Excellence which Westerhof is in charge of as well as Kwara United.
“So the understanding is there”, Nigerian sportsonline.com was told.
