ECOWAS, ACA to honour Muhammad Ali in Abuja
Boxing legend and three-time heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali is to be honoured with the 2007 Living Legend Award next month in Abuja.
Vice Chairwoman of the African Communications Agency (ACA) Erieka Bennett told newsmen in Abuja that the event would come up on February 13.
The award is jointly organised by the ACA and the ECOWAS.
The award ceremony is part of the ECOWAS Summit billed for February 12 to 14.
``We are honoured to celebrate the life of Muhammad Ali, a world citizen, who is loved and respected for his courage, strength and generosity, he is the greatest,'' she said.
Ali, who turned 65 this month, is among other recipients who will receive the Living Legend Award for their dedication to the advancement of Africa and its people.
It will be recalled that former South African President Nelson Mandela, former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, Dr Bamanga Tukur, and Prof. Wole Soyinka were among past Living Legend Award recipients.
The summit's main focus is to promote a more positive and balanced perception of Africa among the global community.
