Gunmen kidnap commissioner, 5 others
*Demand N50m ransom * Police, soldiers launch manhunt
THE Anambra state Commissioner of Police, Mr. John Haruna, says
frantic efforts are being made to locate the state Commissioner for
Health, Mrs. Ego Uzozie and five others kidnapped by unknown gunmen.
He said more than 200 mobile policemen and some soldiers have since
been mobilised for the search.
Haruna told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Thursday in Onitsha
that the commissioner, her son and four others were kidnapped by
unknown gunmen on Wednesday.

Katsina police relations c’ttee calls
for PTF

KATSINA state Police Community Relations Committee has called for
the establishment of Police Trust Fund in the state.
The committee said the trust fund which is to be set up by state
government will go along way in solving some of the problems facing
police in the state.
According to a memorandum presented during the quarterly meeting of
the committee, the fund will source its fund from the local
government councils.

declares Tuesday public holiday

KANO state government has declared Tuesday, January 30, 2007 as a
public holiday as the state governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau,
directs all commissioners, special advisers and heads of parastatals
to move out to their respective constituencies to ensure that their
people get registered.

Kalusha tips Nigeria
FORMER African Footballer of the Year and Zambia’s football icon,
Kalusha Bwalya has tipped Nigeria to win the on-going African Youth
Championship in Congo, hotsportslive.com reports.
The erstwhile Chipolopolo’s skipper cum coach who is in Congo for
the championship and was on the ground in Pointe Noire when Nigeria
humbled Zambia 4 – 2 in the first game, said the Nigerian lads were
very impressive in the match.
