Kalusha tips Nigeria
FORMER African Footballer of the Year and Zambia’s football icon, Kalusha Bwalya has tipped Nigeria to win the on-going African Youth Championship in Congo, hotsportslive.com reports.
The erstwhile Chipolopolo’s skipper cum coach who is in Congo for the championship and was on the ground in Pointe Noire when Nigeria humbled Zambia 4 – 2 in the first game, said the Nigerian lads were very impressive in the match.
“Nigeria was quite impressive against Zambia and parades some eye-catching youngsters that will make names as the tournament progresses. I expect the tournament to still produce some fine names that will be lasting on the lips of all Africans watching.”
Bwalya also said Gambia who booked a berth into the semi-final courtesy of a lone goal victory over Congo on Tuesday, should not be written off because they parade basically the same players that were in last World U-17 Championship in Peru.
The former Zambian coach said foreign scouts were also on the ground in Congo to catch some of the emerging youngsters that will excel in the tournament as interests on African players among European clubs grow by the day.
“Well, everybody is there as there is a lot of interest in African players these days. And the young players’ target to follow the good footsteps of Etos, Drogbas, Essiens can be actualised. They can make names for themselves and go on to play in the big leagues in Europe.”
