Voters’ registration: KNSG declares Tuesday public holiday

KANO state government has declared Tuesday, January 30, 2007 as a public holiday as the state governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, directs all commissioners, special advisers and heads of parastatals to move out to their respective constituencies to ensure that their people get registered.
The governor gave the directive in a speech shortly after the swearing-in of the three local government sole administrators who were pilgrimage to the holy land when the rest were sworn-in early this month.
Governor Shekarau said the public officials should liase with local government officials and electoral officers to ensure that no eligible citizen is left out of the exercise.
He appealed to the people, especially civil servants, to take advantage of the work free days of Monday and Tuesday as declared respectively by the state and federal governments and register so as to vote for leaders of their choice.
Turning to the new sole administrators, the governor charged them to regard their appointment as a challenge and live up to expectation.
Governor Shekarau advised them to work in accordance with the local government laws as well as civil service procedures while urging them to work within the frame of their responsibilities with regards to public funds.
The sole administrators sworn-in are Baffa Sale for Tsanyawa, Abubakar Murabus Tuta, Bebeji and Awwalu Usman Garba Kademi for Bunkure local government area.
