Registration: Police arrest 2 INEC officials in Sokoto
The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 10, Sokoto, Alhaji Yakubu Muhammmd, has confirmed the arrest of two INEC officials.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that officials were arrested in Sokoto on Wednesday for allegedly registering under aged persons.
They were accused of carrying out the registration in the home of a Secretary to local government in the state.
The registration officers have been detained at the Marina Police Division, Sokoto.
The police have also taken into custody, the Direct Data Capture (DDC) machine used in the registration.
The machine was said to have been brought from Gidan-Idi village in Wamakko Local Government.
The ANPP Chairman in Sokoto North Local Government, Alhaji Mohammed Dangoggo, gave the tip-off that led to the arrest.
Efforts to reach the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Awwal Babayo-Shehu, failed. .
