2007 Guber Race:
Who is Jigawa state’s next choice
By SANI ADAMU FARUN DABA
EVERY political commentator is aware of the fact that, the die is cast a
head of the 2007 gubernatorial and presidential elections and all aspirants
are warming their slumbering political machines to test their capability.
Novices in the race are desperately scouting for credible God-father, even
if they have the monetary capability and the wherewithal to face the battle
while the old timers are busy counting their gains and losses, for them to
get prepared to stage a come-back.
The terrain as it appears to be is laden with stumbling blocks and obstacles
and the electorate are busy assessing the eligibility of those aspiring to
lead them in 2007.
The issue of deceiving the electorate is what is currently being debated in
order to avoid a repeat of the mistake of the past which had ultimately
plunged the nation into avoidable political chaos, and the attendant
consequences are now telling on the electorate, who by act of commission or
omission voted unpopular politicians to power.
Creditable politicians with populist oriented policies are counting their
gains ahead of 2007 and the good will they are receiving is enough to
checkmate opponents with inordinate ambition to cling onto power.
As the whistle appeared blown no politician under whatever guise could lay
claim to playing the role of the lord of manor given the spectrum certainty
surrounding 2007 which gives a level playing field to politicians with
progressive agenda to prove their efficacy.
Jigawa state is one of the 36 states in the federation, that politics of
high intrigues and cunningness is taking a some what inconsistent and
uncertain dimension with gubernatorial spirants jockeying to out-smart one
other in the ensuring hot contest.
Aspirants after aspirants seeking for governor Turaki’s coveted chair are
gradually emerging changing the political landscape of the state from what
it was known in the years gone by.
Leading gubernatorial gladiators like Senator Bello Maitama Yusuf and
Turaki’s second in command Barrister Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia Hadejia are on
procol to clinch the state gubernatorial chair as successor to governor
Turaki in 2007.
Given the inconsistent and uncertain nature of the state political terrain,
a new trend is now emerging, in the face of fierce agitation being mounted
by the electorate to throw their weight behind Hon. Bashir Adamu Kazaure,
member representing Kazaure Federal Constituency at the House of
Representatives to contest for Turaki’s job in 2007.
The fire brand legislator has appeared to have made his mark politically in
a jiffy, putting him at a more vantage position compared to his peers.
As a political tactician with considerable acumen and agility Hon. Bashir
Adamu Kazaure had never at once been taken to task by the people of his
constituency, one who had never been accused of floating together with
notable bench warmers.
He was instrumental to empowering youths in his constituency to be
self-reliant in addition to being instrumental to the construction of the
major road linking Kazaure town to Lamber Kunchi which had in the past years
suffered total neglect by successive administration.
The road had in the past, become a death trap to motorists and commuters
making the people of the area to pass a vote of no confidence on those
responsible, with the nightmare dashing hope for future solution.
In his avowed commitment to empowering youths to stand on their feet, the
fire brand legislator fought tooth and nail to ensure that, every youth in
the area benefited from the motorcycles he had distributed and as a
political go-getter, Hon. Bashir Adamu in his usual characteristics of
politics of progressivism, takes everyone along without discrimination,
irrespective of one’s ideological leaning in as much as the issue of moving
the state forward comes into spotlight.
Pundits in the state see him as a genuine messiah and an apt personification
of a revered figure with a discernible mission whose penchant to bring
Jigawa state into lime-light, has never been in doubt.
A rare feat to his credit is his unswerving loyalty to governor Turaki as
the incumbent in addition to the fact that, no accusing finger has ever been
pointed at his person for unwarranted political misconduct.
Politics according to Hon. Bashir Adamu is a game that should be played
according to the rules devoid of the usual which-hunt associated with the
attitude of fighting opponents.
Hon. Bashir Adamu has according to political observers, to come to grapple
with the task of sustaining the feat achieved by governor Turaki for
affecting a technological information revolution and the net-work of roads
he had constructed.
As a political trailblazer, the amiable legislator knows where his shoe
pinches and will never make the mistake that would swallow his promising
political career.
If the agitation being mounted by his people to contest for the state
gubernatorial slot is anything to go by, the legislator stands the chance of
being the choice of his people in 2007 as the ball is now in the court of
the electorate to decide on who should be their next governor.
