...As govt collaborates with EU, FG to construct 10 water supply schemes
JIGAWA state government in collaboration with the European Union and federal government are to construct 10 water supply schemes in small towns in the state, the permanent secretary in the state ministry of water resources, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu has announced.
Speaking at the opening of the session of the tender bidding for the project, Mu’azu said over 30 companies have applied for the bidding.
A press release signed by the public relations officer of the ministry, Malam Sunusi Muhammad Birnin Kudu, quoted Mu’azu as saying, "the contract for the new water schemes would be jointly sponsored by the European Union, the federal government, Jigawa state and benefiting communities."
The permanent secretary who represented the commissioner, Salisu Mamuda, said the successful bidders will execute the projects at Madubi, Limawa, Sundimina, Dan-Ama, Kanya, Garun Gabas, Tsallake, Dandi, Dunari, Maje and Sabon Garin Birnin Kudu.
Also speaking, the project manager of the programme, Engr. Abba Hassan explained that water project schemes were part of the European Union’s contribution towards providing safe, adequate and sustainable water and sanitation services to the rural communities in the state.
It would be recalled that Jigawa is one of the six selected states to benefit from the EU water supply programme.
Similarly, the European Union, federal and Jigawa state governments were to construct three additional water scheme projects in the state, the state commissioner for water resources, Alhaji Salisu Mamuda has disclosed while opening a tender bidding for the project in Dutse recently.
He said the objective of the bidding was to select the best reputable companies among the 30 who applied to execute the quality and acceptable work.
The commissioner who was represented by his permanent secretary, Adamu Mu’azu assured the participating contractors of honest, transparent, equity and due process evaluation process.
He advised those who won to justify the confidence reposed in them by executing quality job while losers should take heart and look for the future bidding which may be their turn.
In his remark, the EU project manager in charge of Jigawa state, Engr. Abba Hassan said the projects would be jointly sponsored by European Union, federal and Jigawa state governments.
The three projects according to the release that were bidded for were Birnin Kudu reservoir, reservation pond, rehabilitation of Birnin Kudu water works and Garu Water Supply Scheme, Dutse.
