Assembly clears LG chairman over charges of non-performance
The Kwara House of Assembly on Tuesday, cleared the Patigi local government chairman, Alhaji Muhammad Liman, over allegations that he failed to execute some projects.
Last August, some members of the Rifun community, in a petition to the House alleged that Liman collected N10.5 million for electrification projects for some villages but failed to execute it.
The affected villages in their petition, urged the House to investigate the issue and ensure the completion of the projects.
Presenting its report, Malam Sa’idu Liman, chairman of the ad hoc committee set up to investigate the matter, said the project was awarded by Governor Bukola Saraki and there was no ‘evidence to substantiate’ that the suspended council boss collected the money.
He said further that the contract was awarded to Unique Electro-Mech and Civil Engineering Ltd, Ilorin, at the cost of N8 million in March 2009 and was to be completed within six months.
He said that the committee discovered in its findings that the project was 50 per cent completed as at the time the petition was written.
Lawmakers then exnorated Liman and lifted the suspension placed on him.
