... Awards N4.3bn Dallaje Dam contract

The federal government has awarded contract for the construction of Dallaje Dam in Bindawa local government of Katsina state.
The construction of the dam which will gulp N4.3 billion is to provide 35 million cubic litres of water and will be completed in the next 24 months.
Speaking at the handing over of the site of the project to the contractor yesterday, Managing Director of Sokoto-Rima River Basin Development Authority, Alhaji Danlami Zango said the dam is to provide water to Bindawa, Mani, Ingawa and Kusada.
Alhaji Zango further said the dam will also provide hectares of irrigation farm lands for farmers of the benefitting villages.
He explained that the contracting firm is expected to construct 12 kilometers of road for farmers to move their farm produce from the site of the
dam.
Earlier, Katsina state governor, Barr. Ibrahim Shehu Shema had said Dallaje dam was initiated by the administration of Umaru Musa Yar’adua in 2001.
Governor Shema who spoke through the state commissioner of water resources, Alhaji Nasiru Mu’azu Danmusa said the dam would help to ensure provision of water and generate income for the farmers.
He called on communities at the proposed site of the dam to give all necessary support and cooperation to the contracting firm.
Governor Shema commended the federal government for awarding the contract to ensure the take-off of the dam project.
In his speech, chairman of Bindawa local government council, Alhaji Abdu Umar assured that his council will complement all efforts for the smooth construction of the dam.
