Battalion leader wants cordial civilian/soldier relationship
Lt.-Col. Saidu Balarabe, Commanding Officer, 1 Battalion of the Nigerian Army in Kebbi, on Saturday charged soldiers to maintain cordial relationship with civilians.
Lt.-Col. Balarabe said this in Birnin Kebbi, during activities to mark the annual West African Social Activities (WASA) at the Dukku Barracks.
The Commanding Officer praised the people of the area for their cooperation with the uniformed men to enhance peaceful co-existence.
"The issue of security cannot be left to the Army or other security agencies alone. It is the responsibility of all.
''We will strive to sustain the cordial relationship and continue to protect the civilians,'' he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that soldiers and their families socialized at the WASA occasion, while deserving soldiers received various awards.
Amongst the awardees were - Lance Cpl. Ibrahim Haruna, (Most Outstanding Soldier); Pte. Shehu Manu, (The Best Dressed); Staff Sgt. Juliana Uhomesili (Most Desciplined) and Staff Sgt, Jafaru Hassan, (Best Shooter).
Others included, Pte. Paulina Simon, (Best Female Shooter); Pte.Tunji Olarunde, (Best Quarter Guard Sgt.), while the Support Company emerged the best company in the command.
