Bauchi probes fertiliser coy
The Bauchi state government says it has engaged an audit firm to look into the financial transactions of its fertiliser blending company.
The probe followed the withdrawal of N25 million from its account.
The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Alhaji Yakubu Abdullahi, stated this at a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Bauchi.
Abdullahi said the audit had yielded positive results, noting that Alhaji Sanusi Maijama'a, the immediate past Chairman of the company, had admitted receiving the money as I.O.U.
`` There are no criminal charges against him since he admitted receiving the amount and has promised to pay back.
`` We have invited him and he asked that he be given more time to return the money,'' he said.
Abdullahi said ''nobody will take government money and go scot-free '', adding that ''government is still investigating the issue.''
NAN, however, learnt that Maijama'a in a written application secured the I.O.U for the money to enable him buy a property in Abuja.
He was said to have given an undertaking that he would pay back the money in two weeks.
Maijama'a was among the full and part-time board chairmen dropped recently by the state government.
