Breast cancer: Early detection leads to cure

EARLY detection is the best protection and this can only be done by every woman. So every woman of child bearing age should be "stopping cancer before it starts". Rally round to support people living with cancer. Your penny means a lot. Join "women in pink," they are survival group world wide.

A lot of issues come up when one is diagnosed with breast cancer, so it is important for one to linked up with different services available at our own level to attain recovery and to become a survivor.

So how to reduce your risk of having cancer is to maintain a healthy weight particularly around the waist, through a balanced diet and regular physical activity at least 30 minutes everyday. Evidence has shown that overweight and obesity can be a contributing factors.

Eat more of a varieties of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans and natural things which Allah blesses us with.

The best way for mother to breastfeed exclusively for up to six months. Strong evidence shows that breastfeeding protects mothers against cancer and babies from excess weight gain. So, it is a healthy choice both for you and your baby.

If you are affected with breast cancer you should see these changes. A change in size or shape of your breast. A change in skin texture such as dimpling or a rash around your nipple.

*Discharge from one or both nipple or when it becomes pulled in converted) or changes position.

*Continuous pain in one part of your breast, shoulder, armpit or collar bone.

Lastly lump or thickening in your breast or armpit, breastfeeding mothers or women during their menses can experience this and it is not a sign of cancer.

If there is a change in your breast go and see a doctor for further evaluation in any government or private facility e.g. AKTH, MMSH, Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital etc.
