Commissioner orders hostel block demolished

COMMISSIONER in charge of projects monitoring and evaluation in Kano state, Alhaji Ibrahim Garba has ordered for demolition of a hostel block being constructed by the ministry of education at Government Senior Secondary School Rano.
The commissioner who gave the order when he visited the projects site on Monday said the multi-million naira projects is so badly constructed that government could not guarantee the safely of the 700 to 800 students the hostel is billed to accommodate.
He said the present administration in the state not only value human life but also out to develop them therefore could not be part of this effort to risk the lives of its citizens.
He gave 30 day ultimatum to the ministry of education to demolish the projects, adding that if the order is ignored within the stipulated time, the ministry would have no option but to effort the demolishion by itself.
Alhaji Garba used the opportunity to call on the ministry of education and other ministries to be sure that adequate opportunities are given to engineers and other professionals to monitor and handle projects to ensure standard.
At school of Rural Technology and Entrepreneurial Development, Rano the commissioner frowned at the failure of the school management to install the training equipment which the state government purchased for the school nearly a year ago.
He, of the opinion that the equipment having remain in the container that brought them from the part in an open air might have been spoiled and warned that the school authority must install the equipment within two weeks.
According to him, the complain by the school officials that they are constraint by lack of money to do the installation is not enough, adding that every thing must be done to prevent the equipment from rusting away.
In another development, the commissioner has commended SKY contractors for constructing blocks of hostels at Government Girls College Dala as part of his contribution to educational development in the state.
The commissioner who made the commendation when he paid an inspection tour to the school was conducted round the four new hostels being constructed and two other blocks the contractor completely renovated.
According to an official of the school, the entire project which is costing the contractor over N80 million include provision of beds and other items needed in the hostels.
Alhaji Garba also used the opportunity to commend the management of Zenith, Oceanic and Unity Banks for executing projects in some schools in the state.
He called on other organizations, financial institution and philanthropists to assist the government in transforming the educational system in state.
