By USMAN GWADABE
KANO state Council of Ulama is planning week-long activities for the state House Assembly members with a view to educating them on their roles and those of the electorate under Islamic perspective.
Chairman of the council, Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil disclosed this when he led other members on a courtesy call to the Speaker, Abdul-Aziz Garba Gafasa yesterday.
He reiterated that the programme would assist the lawmakers in discharging their duties in accordance with the nation’s and Islamic rules respectively.
Khalil further said the week-long events would involve issues on leadership, civil service, Ulama, disabled and children and would continue to be organised yearly, pointing out that the target audience would be educated on how to discharge their services in accordance with the Islamic rites.
The chairman then told the Speaker that the council was established in 1980 with the aim of uniting, enlightening, educating and assisting Muslims to have a meaningful life here and hereafter.
He also said that the present leadership of the council has divided the state into seven zones to enable it conduct its services in all parts of the state effectively.
Shekih Khalil then solicited for a solidified relationship between the legislators and the Ulama so as to enact laws that would promote Muslims and Islam.
Responding, Speaker Gafasa assured the council of total support and cooperation, reaffirming that the lawmakers are bent on promoting and protecting the integrity of Muslims and Islam in the course of discharging their constitutional roles.
Gafasa called on individuals and groups to render all necessary support to the council to enable them perform their functions efficiently.
