Crisis rocks ANPP in Zamfara
Zamfara ANPP took a new dimension yesterday following the emergence of a faction, with former Legal Adviser of the party, Alhaji Surajo Haske, emerging as chairman.
Haske told newsmen in Gusau that meeting where he was elected was attended by two Senators, six out of seven members of the House of Representatives, 15 out of 24 members of the state House of Assembly, and some national officers.
He said the decision by the ANPP stakeholders to elect him was to save the party from drifting into deep crisis that could affect its victory in the 2011 general elections in the state.
The meeting, he said, unanimously dissolved the leadership of Alhaji Abdullahi Yari, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee.
Haske alleged that the caretaker committee since inception seven months ago, failed to organise the party after the defection of Governor Mahmuda Aliyu Shinkafi to the PDP.
``ANPP stands for justice and fair play, therefore we will not allow the interest of few individuals to override the collective interest of the party,`` he further explained.
He promised to ensure the conduct of free and fair primaries into all elective positions.
Haske said the new leadership of the party has been given a three-month mandate to reorganise ANPP in the state and work towards electoral victory in the forthcoming 2011.
In his reaction to the emergence of the new leadership, Alhaji Ibrahim Wakala, Vice Chairman of purportedly dissolved caretaker committee, said the action of Haske was null and void.
He said the faction had no blessings of the national secretariat of the party.
