3 power projects missing in Kwara
Rep. Ndidi Elumelu, the chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Power and Steel, has said that three major power projects located in Kwara state could not be traced.
Elumelu, who made this disclosure when he visited Governor Bukola Saraki in Ilorin said that only one of the four approved power projects were going on in the state.
"The committee has tried since Tuesday, without success to locate the sites of the projects.
``It was only one located at Ganmo, on the outskirts of Ilorin that was found, but with work yet to commence on the site," he said.
Elumelu, who led his colleagues on tour of power projects, said four sub-transmission stations were allotted to the state and N3.3 billion paid as mobilisation fee.
The chairman condemned some government officials and contractors who divert the country's scarce resources, saying that they had caused untold hardship to Nigerians.
Elumelu gave an assurance that the committee's investigations would not end in futility as culprits would be made to face the wrath of the law.
Saraki commended the determination and commitment of the committee to restore hope in the power sector and bring to light, the rot in the sector.
The governor said he was ignorant of the projects, asking, ``how can you bring a project to my state without informing me?"
He urged the federal government to always involve governors in the planning and execution of federal projects in their states to facilitate their successful completion.
