FG insists on quality lubricants for oil, gas sector
The federal government says it will take proactive measures to ensure production of quality lubricants for the nation's oil and gas industry.
A statement from the ministry of petroleum resources on Sunday quoted the minister, Dr Rilwanu Lukman, as making the remark at a stakeholders' meeting on the lubricant market.
The release also quoted the minister as saying that the ministry would no longer compromise standard.
``The sector would not condole substandard lubricants because of the sensitive nature of the oil and gas operations,'' Lukman said.
According to him, the authorities have already set up the machinery to achieve this objective.
He said the Department of Petroleum Resources and Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) were effectively collaborating to achieve a template for standard production of lubricants.
He said that local production of standard lubricants would save the public from hazards posed by adulterated lubricants.
``Substandard lubricants have been responsible for environmental degradation and frequent damage to industrial machines and vehicles.
``The country is endowed with the basic materials to produce base oil, an important ingredient for processing lubricants,'' Lukman said.
The minister said the feat could be achieved faster when the Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemical Company commenced full operation.
He said that a communication strategy designed to enlighten and sensitise users of lubricants on the dangers of patronising sellers of fake base oil had since been adopted.
