Fight against AIDS: SACA engages clerics, monarchs
From MUAWUYA B IDRIS, Katsina
KATSINA State Action Committee on AIDS (SACA) has engaged the services of 102 Ulamas and traditional rulers in the fight against the spread of the disease.
The 102 Ulama and traditional rulers selected from the 34 local government areas of the state are to preach and enlighten the public on dangers of the disease.
Already, the committee has organised one day training for them towards achieving the set objective.
Speaking at the training session on Wednesday, Project Manger of SACA, Dr Muntari Hassan appealed to Ulama and traditional rulers to assist the committee to discharge its duties.
Dr Hassan said ulama and traditional rulers have a vital role to play in the fight against the spread of the disease since they were closer to the people.
“You should preach and enlighten our people on the danger of contacting HIV/AIDS to stop the spread of the disease”, he said.
Dr Hassan also called on them to preach against discriminating victims of AIDS, saying they should be treated like any other human being.
The project manager who spoke at length on the activities of the committee, said cases of HIV/AIDS are drastically being reduced daily.
He commended the state government for assisting the committee in discharging its duty.
