Fly-over project: Amaechi appeals over traffic difficulty
From ALIYU L. SAULAWA, P/Harcourt
The Rivers state governor, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, has appealed to residents, and motorists using the Aba Road, to bear the traffic inconveniences, as work on the Aba Road/East West Road fly-over project continues.
He said government was aware of the difficulties commuters pass through out that axis, adding that it would soon be over as assurances from the contractor indicate that within two weeks, the loop for the fly-over would be ready for use, and traffic would flow more freely.
The governor expressed satisfaction over the extent of work on the Eleme Junction Flyover project being undertaken by Julius Berger.
Governor Amaechi who stated this during an unscheduled inspection tour of the flyover project in Port Harcourt , said the contracting firm had assured him that within two weeks the loop would be ready to decongest traffic on the centre of the road.
He noted that the contractors are keeping to their promise, and soon the people would be driving through by the sides, while work continues at the centre, and hope that at the completion of work, the traffic problem at Eleme junction would be reduced completely.
The state chief executive, who advised Rivers people and commuters on the road to be patient while the construction last’s, also remarked that the state government has awarded some more road contracts that would enhance smooth moment.
He explained that when the contractors mobilize to site in the next few weeks, the traffic situation in Port Harcourt might worsen, because of pressure that will be on the existing road, and assured that the situation would improve.
“I am sure that the traffic situation in Port Harcourt will worsen in the next few weeks as all the contractors we have awarded road contract mobilize to site, it would bring a lot of pressure on traffic and on the road,” Amaechi said.
