Gano seeks court’s order on 3-year tenure
By NASIRU MUHAMMAD
IN order to get his tenure determined, the chairman Dawakin Kudu Local Government Council Alhaji Sani Adamu Gano has instituted a case before a high court in Kano state, seeking it to order that he should serve for three years.
In the case which came up for mention yesterday before Hon. Justice Dije Aboki, the chairman is also urging the court to restrain the Kano state government and the state House of Assembly from dissolving his council.
He cited section seven of the constitution which restrains both the state government and the state House of Assembly from dissolving a local council and appointing the caretaker committees.
Speaking to Daily Triumph, counsel to the chairman Barr. M.K. Dabo, said though the state governor Malam Ibrahim Shekarau had made it public that the chairman will serve for three years, the court has to give an order to that effect.
“The order of the court is very important in this regard”, he said.
Meanwhile, the matter has been adjourned to 18th March, 2010 for hearing.
It could be recalled that Alhaji Gano, was sworn-in as chairman of Dawakin Kudu Local Councillast year, after winning a court case against Alhaji Muhammad Umar of PDP who was the former chairman of the council.
