208 get free eye treatment
The Musawa local government in Katsina state has sponsored the treatment of 208 persons with eye diseases in its effort to enhance peoples health in the area.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the eye treatment exercise commenced on November 19, and beneficiaries were drawn from the 10 political wards of the area.
The council’s primary health care coordinator, Alhaji Suleiman Yusha’u, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday at the venue of the exercise that the treatments included surgery, medication and distribution of eye glasses.
Yusha’u said, 22 females and 28 males were operated upon, while others received various treatment, depending on the type of eye problem.
The council chairman, Dr Lawal Aliyu, represented by the council’s information officer, Malam Sanusi Musawa, said, about N800,000 was spent on the exercise and called on residents to visit hospitals for formal medication.
Aliyu, who discouraged self medication, said that the council had initiated free drugs distribution at its 54 healthcare centres and had awarded contracts for the construction of three modern healthcare centres at the cost of N24 million each in some selected villages.
The consultant’s team leader, Abubakar Dangane, said surgeries conducted were for cataract and various eye diseases have been treated and that the exercise was scheduled to end on November 24.
Some of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Danlami Musawa and Malama Habi Sadi Jikamshi, expressed appreciation to the council chairman over the gesture, noting that most of them suffered the illness for years.
