Gombe acquires communication facilities for media stations
The Gombe state government has procured communication facilities worth N420 million to enhance the output of its radio and television stations.
Alhaji Saidu Alkali, the Commissioner for Information, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe on Wednesday that the facilities included studio equipment, transmitters and accessories, internet facilities, vehicles and library materials.
He said that the studio equipment had already been delivered while the remaining ones, which were awaiting clearance at the Apapa Quays, would be delivered within the next two weeks.
Alkali said that the equipment’s installation would commence immediately when all the facilities were on the ground, assuring the people of wider coverage and quality broadcast signals after the installation.
``The two transmitters are of 20 kilowatts capacity each, sufficient to cover the entire state and even beyond,'' he said.Alkali said that the new facilities would also enable the digitisation of services of the broadcast stations in the next few weeks, stressing that the stations would beat the June 17, 2012 deadline set by the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission.
He, however, urged the staff of the state-owned media organisations to provide quality service delivery so as to justify the huge investments of the government in acquiring the modern media facilities.
NAN recalls that in the past, the state television and radio stations had experienced series of breakdowns and had gone off the air on several occasions.
