IG assures accomplishing justice, law maintenance with available resources

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ogbonna O. Onovo has reassured that the Nigeria Police Force under his leadership, will continue to deploy available resourses to accomplish its assigned roles in the administration of justice, law enforcement and order maintenance in the county.
He said the force under his leadership is focused on returning the Nigeria Police to its core value of discipline and professionalism which are fundamental to the main goal of crime prevention.
The IG who stated this at an interactive Forum with crime correspondents in Abuja, also said that he was concentrating on capacity building through training and re- training of officers to enhance their performance in order to achieve the measure.
According to him, various programmes are being run at Police Training Institutes across the country stressing that the strategic crime prevention and control plan in seven pilot cities is still ongoing at Police College, Kaduna, while the Squadran Commanders, Training Course at the Police Mobile Force Training School Ila – Rorangu and the Bomb Scene Management and Control Terrorism Investigation Course anchored by the British High Commissioner in partnership with the metropolitan police held in Abuja have been concluded.
“While the force deploys modern policing methods to combat crime, my administration is adopting intelligence – based policing appoch which has proved to be one of the best policing strategies in the world to rein in criminal activities in the country” he said.
The IG who was represented by the Commissioner of Police and Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector-General of Police, Olayinka B. Balogun, also called on the need to partner with all stakeholders most especially the local communities in their quest to achieve their desired result.
Mr. Onovo who also observed that the success of their job depends on the level of cooperation they received from members of the media, pointed out that since his assumption in the last four months as the 14th indigenous Inspector-General of Police, he had acknowledged the contributions of the media to the achievement they have been able to record during the period.
He, however, further solicited the media to continue to support in dealing with police-related problems in the country, saying that his force remains the largest policing organization in Africa.
