Islamic cleric wants global trust fund manage holy mosques
An Islamic Cleric, Alhaji Al-Amin Sani has advocated for the setting up of a global trust fund by Muslims for the management of the two holy mosques in Makkah and Madina, both in Saudi Arabia.
Sani told a correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Makkah yesterday, that proceeds from the fund should be used to manage the two mosques as against the current practice whereby the Saudi Kingdom is the sole manager.
He said that through the global fund, the management of the two holy mosques would enjoy the full participation of Islamic countries throughout the world.
Sani said that although the mosques were situated in Saudi Arabia, it was the responsibility of the entire Muslim world to manage them.
``The two holy mosques in Makkah and Madina belong to all Muslims as their sacred places of worship,`` Sani said.
He also suggested that the maintenance of the mosque should be rotated annually among Muslim nations so as to guarantee unity and affection among Muslims globally irrespective of their regions, race or colour, adding that doing so would ensure the speedy expansion of the mosque.
He, however, commended the Saudi government for upgrading facilities in both Makkah and Madina as well as in other important religious sites in order to ensure that pilgrims carried out their rites without any difficulties.
