JGSG donates N10m to Jos crisis victims
From ISMA’ILA Muhammad, Dutse
Jigawa state goverment yesterday gave out the sum N10 million to the indigenes of the state who fell victims to the recent mayhem in Jos, just as human rights groups are calling on the International Criminal Court of Justice to investigate and try those responsible for the crisis.
A statement signed by the Director of Press to Governor Sule Lamido, Mallam Umar Kyari Jitau Madamuwa said the donation was an effort to cushion the effect of the damages suffered by the people during the crisis.
“Government has set up a committee under the chairmanship of the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Muhammadu Nuhu Sanusi, to visit the victims and ascertain the extent of damages and losses suffered by the indigenes of the state residing in Jos,” the statement said.
The statement condemned the recurring crisis and appealed to people to be law abiding and live in peace with one another, saying peace remains the most important element of growth and development of any society.
"Government of Jigawa state has released the sum of N10 million as donation to its indigenes who fell victims of the recent Jos crisis. It is the first step to cushion the effect of their suffering", said the statement.
It further explained that, it will wait further details of the damages from the emir who is expected to meet with the victims in Jos within the next couple of days.
Meanwhile, a human rights group known as Justice Group, are now calling for the International Court of Justice in Hague to come in to investigate the Jos crisis, describing it as one of the greatest genocides in Nigeria’s history which should not be allowed to be dispensed in the country's court.
Already, the group has been circulating messages that the earlier ICC came into the matter the better, with a view to serving as deterrent to others.
"The animalistic murders in Jos are the same as Rwandan genocide, if you care for life join our call for an international investigators and International Criminal Court to try the killers and their sponsors for genocide", the statement read in part.
