‘Jigawa has N19.7bn in treasury’

Jigawa state government has a total of over N19.7 billion in her treasury account.
The state commissioner for finance and economic planning,Alhaji Hannafi Yakubu, stated this while commenting on the achievements recorded in the one year of Sule Lamido’s administration.
He said that the state government received over N44 billion from the federation account from June 2007 to April 2008.
Alhaji Yakubu also said over N7.6 billion was paid as salaries, over N9.8 billion was expended on capital projects and over N7.3 billion was spent on recurrent expenditure.
According to him, a total of N24.8 billion was expended from the period under review.
He said 27 local government councils in the state had received over N25.6 billion from the federation account from June 2007 to April 2008.
He pointed out that of the amount, over N7.8 billion was paid as salaries of local government staff and local education authorities.
According to him, over N19.9 billion was spent on recurent expenditure, while a total of N3.8 billion was at the account of the local governments.
He said the government was fully committed on the accountability and prudent management of public funds.
