Jigawa immunises 34,960 children against polio
The Jigawa state government has said that 34,960 children have been so far been immunized against polio in the ongoing Eight round of immunization exercise in the state.
Commissioner for health, Alhaji Ibrahim Nashabaru disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Monday.
He said that the state government received 46,000 doses of vaccines from the Federal Ministry of Health for the programme.
Nashabaru said that the exercise which was commenced in Miga, Kiyawa, Birnikudu and Dutse local government areas, is expected to end on Tuesday, November 24.
The commissioner commended the health workers who were engaged in the immunization ecercise.
Also speaking, immunization officer in charge of Kiyawa local government, Malam Ashiru Muazu told NAN that the successes recorded in the exercise, was due to the level of commitment on the part of the state government to eradicate polio and other childhood killer diseases.
He also said that the state government introduced distribution of gift items to encourage parents allow their children to be immunized.
``Every child who was immunized was given soap and detergents,’’ he said.
He said that Jigawa was one of the states with high prevalence cases of polio in the country.
