Jonathan congratulates Obi
Vice President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday congratulated Governor Peter Obi of Anambra on his victory in Saturday's election.
Jonathan also lauded the people of Anambra for the peaceful conduct of the election, noting that it is an indication that Nigerians are determined to make democracy succeed.
According to the result announced by INEC,the incumbent governor, representing APGA, won the election while AC candidate Chris Ngige, a former governor of the state, came second.
The PDP candidadte Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, came third.
A statement issued in Abuja by Mr Ima Niboro, the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, stated: ``The Vice President acknowledged the roles played by INEC, as well as the Nigeria Police and other security agencies towards the successful conduct of the poll.
``This is an indication that the electoral reforms of the present administration are beginning to have an effect on the nation's political culture.
``He lauded all the contestants in the polls for conducting themselves in an exemplary manner.
``Jonathan stated that if the Anambra polls were any guide, then the country is surely getting out of the woods in terms of elections and succession politics.''
