Kaduna Police Commssioner is dead

THE commissioner of Police, Kaduna state command, Mr Haz Iwendi is dead. He died at the Ahmadu Bello Teaching Hospital, Shika, Zaria after a brief illness.
Late Iwendi was born February 2 , 1955 in Ibadan, Oyo state and he is an indigne of Ogwashi-Uku in Delta state.
He attended St Anthony Primary School, Inalende, Ibadan from 1961- 1966, University of Nigeria Nsukka from 1975- 1979, later the university of Exeter in UK from 1993- 1995.
Mr Iwendi joined the Nigerian Police as cadet ASP Officer Course No 9 between 1980-1981. He was the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), from August 2005 and deputy commissioner of Police in Ogun and Jigawa states command from March 2005 to August 2005.
He was at the Force Headquters in charge of public relations before he was posted to Kaduna state early this year as commissioner of police.
Among the early callers to his residence along Tafawa Ballewa Way were all the top ranking police officers in the state.
In his condolence message, the Kaduna state acting governor, Mr. Ibrahim Patrick Yakowa, described the death of Iwendi as great loss to the state and country at large.
He said Kaduna state and theNigeria Police lost an active officer who scrificed his life, time and energy to build a proud nation.
According to him, his contribution in building peace and security in Kaduna state can not be under estimated, adding that he contibuted immensely towards peace and security in the state.
Also in his message to the family, the Insepector-General of Police, Mr Mike Okiro described late Iwendi as very sound officer, who is hardworking and trustworthy, recalling his active service day while he worked with him at the Police Headquarters as some body that could deliver.
He said Iwendi was an officer that carried his duty diligently with sense of maturity and prayed for the soul of Iwendi to rest in perfect peace.
Others who registered their codolence with the deceased family were the GOC, Kaduna, comptroller of Immigration, commander, Federal Road Safety Commission, Customs, Civil Defence Corps and all members of the Kaduna state executive council.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force said yesterday that it has introduced compulsory medical check up for all officers from assistant commissioner of police and above.
The development came one day after the death of Mr. Haz Iwendi,the Commission of Police for Kaduna state, who was reported to have slumped and passed away.
Mr. Mike Okiro, the Inspector-General of Police said this in Abuja, when the Police Management team paid him a condolence visit.
“Henceforth, ACPs, Deputy Commissioners (DCs) Commissioners of Police (CPs), Assistant Inspectors-General (AIGs) and Deputy Inspectors-General (DIGs) must go for annual medical check up abroad to certify their health status,’’ Okiro said.
He said that while ACPs would have the option of undergoing their medical check up in the country, DCs and CPs must go outside the country to enable them to have a good rest.
Okiro, however, said that “the force will not pay for it (check up) but it is compulsory.
He said he was optimistic that all DCs and above could afford to travel out side the country for medical check up
“The level of stress in police work is too much, so we must not kill ourselves; the job will continue whether we are alive or not’’.
