Kano emir pleads for Hasiya Bayero Hospital
By HASSAN MUHAMMAD
IN view of its importance to child birth, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji (Dr) Ado Bayero has called on the authorities and wealthy individuals to come to the aid of Hasiya Bayero Pediatric Hospital in order to enhance its health care delivery.
The emir made the call when he paid inspection visit to the hospital to see for himself its condition.
The problems observed by the emir in the different units included those at the theatre, X-ray unit, pharmaceutical store, consulting room and at oral dehydration therapy unit.
According to the emir, the pediatric unit needs to be provided with all necessary working materials and adequate power supply among others.
Emir Bayero who expressed his sympathy with the patients on admission at the Child Medical CM, AB & C units and emergency room, commended all those who contribute their quota toward assisting the patients in the hospital.
He particularly commended Municipal, Dala, Gwale local government councils and Alhaji Sani Lawal Kofar Mata for their concern in promoting healthcare delivery in the state.
Also giving some explanations, Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Kabiru Maso-Kano who enumerated some of the problems bedevilling the hospital, said the hospital which was opened 16 years ago is the first of its kind in the state and second in Nigeria.
According to him, its units need to be expanded because a room that is supposed to be used for only one consultant is now being occupied by three to four consultants.
Maso-Kano pointed out that the hospital lacks ambulance and a packing space as well as being surrounded by private residents which he said is not conducive for its activities.
On his part, the Director General Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai said the hospital has introduced professional medical experts consulting over 1000 patients, but called for more government supports.
Also speaking, Director Medical Services of the Board, Dr. Sulaiman Wali commended the emir for his contribution towards humanitarian services.
